Lindegren, Erik, ABC of Lettering and Print Types: Volumes A, B, & C, New York, Museum Books, Inc., 1964, first edition, oblong 4to (10" x 7"), HB in dj, white paper bds w/ red & black titles & large monogram on cover in similar dj's, See below See below.

This is a set of three volumes, absolutely (and without hyperbole) essential to the lettering and typography aficionado and/or professional.

Volume A VG+/G; shelfwear to bds; dj age-darkened, 2 1" tears to top front edge, some soiling, creasing at edges.

1964, 159 pp, profuse color images. Volume A is about Lettering; translated by Fred Wilder except for "Italic Handwriting" by Frank Allan Thomson. A gorgeous spectrum of inks at rear. Examples of alphabets in use by the famous Hermann Zapf as well as many other lesser-known letterers and type designers, and a reproduction of a letter by Elizabeth I of England at the age of 16.

Volume B VG+/VG; shelfworn, dj age-darkened, edgeworn.

1965, 335 pp. Volume B is dedicated to Printing types; translated by Fred Wilder. All classifications of typefaces, and large-face alphabets to demonstrate such, in a number of colors; many are printed over grids to help demonstrate their dimensions. Also a section called "On the Legibility of Printed Text" by Bror Zachrisson, which is followed by examples of running text in "an ordinary book font" to expose the "overall impression" of each alphabet to a reader, in standard, italic and bold faces.

Volume C VG+/G+; shelfworn, dj age-darkened, edgeworn, .5" circular scar to front.

1965, 136 pp. Volume C is "An Historical Survey" of typefaces and lettering from the earliest times to the time of publication; translated by Charles J. Miller. Profuse illustrations and examples of lettering and types by b&w and color. Separate indices of typefaces and persons.
