Drake & Company, 1918, 3rd edition, thick 4to (11.25" x 8.75"), HB, olive-brown cloth boards, 3-color embossed decorative design and silhouette of a sign painter at work, VG/ none. Rear hinge cracked, boards a bit loose; some old wallpaper samples glued to front endpapers. Interior contents clean save for some minor smudging on a few pages.

47pp. text, approx. 1" thick. Illustrated throughout with 126 b/w plates of lettering, suggested designs and layouts, printed on heavy coated stock, many full page on rectos only. Index; period adverts for signmakers' supplies at the back.

From the Author's Preface:

"A modern treatise on card writing [sign painting for retail advertising] with the sole intent of presenting in a clear and concise form all that can be desired in the way of practical method execution and design, relative to the art as applied and practiced in every-day work in show card shops or studios, and department stores.
