Sarg, Tony, Tony Sarg's New York, New York, Greenberg, 1926, first edition, folio (13" x 10.25"), HB, black cloth boards w/ color illus cover pastedown, VG- / none. See below.

Ex-library, stamp to title pp., call number to spine, serial number to colophon pp., damp stain to outer boards, sm. damp stain to text block at gutter, archival repair to ffep at gutter, gilt titles rubbed, edges worn, extremities bumped, some interior fingersoiling.

Unpaginated, 24 full-page color illustrations. Elevated, bird's-eye-views of NYC sites, thus situated as to show the myriad activities at once in a single moment. Sarg's affection for the city is clearly evident--"...always people, a never-ending procession of people of all kinds, from every walk of life--people who are the actors in an infinity of small comedies. It is so that I see New York and so that I wish to picture it--a city depicted in terms of people."

Contents: Grand Central Station, Public Library, Museum of Natural History, The Aquarium, Sixth Avenue "L" at Thirty-third Street, Peacock Alley in the Waldorf Astoria, Times Square, Twenty-third Ferry Slip, Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Ghetto (refers to a Lower East Side tenement), The Flatiron Building, The Stock Exchange, Washington Market, Greenwich Village, The City Hall, The Shuttle in the Subway, Manhattan Bridge, Customs Inspection at Steamship Pier, Chinatown, The Great White Way, Columbus Circle, Jefferson Market Police Court, "East Side, West Side, All Around the Town.", Snatched from the Melting Pot.

A nice copy, inspite of noted flaws, of an increasingly scarce title.    [Book ID # 2046]
