Mumford, Ethel Watts & Addison Mizner, The Cynics Calendar of Wisdom for 1904, Addison Mizner, San Francisco, Paul Elder and Company, 1903, first edition, sm. 8vo (7 7/8" x 5 7/8"), flexible HB, blue & white gingham covered boards with illustrated title label ( chipped on right edge), G+ / none as issued. Spine sun-faded, corners exposed. Pages cotton-tied, binding tight and secure; dampstaining.

Whimsical pocket size datebook, embellished with humorously illustrated limericks for each "week at-a-glance"; corresponding versos marked "Memoranda" for daily jottings (and include humorous advertising for Cortez Cigars, "For men with brains", Key West, Florida). Red and black illustrations by Ethel Watts Mumford (novelist, humorist, poet, playwright, 1878-1940) and Addison Mizner (noted architect an "inventor" of Florida's Gold Coast, 1872-1933). A charming book, similar to the then popular "Limerick Up To Date Book" series also published by Paul Elder (from 1898 through 1917[?] ) and to which each of these authors also contributed their combined talents and wit. The week of April Fools Day which has some soiling to verso Memoranda and spots on recto page; some occasional creases (looks to be from time of binding) and staining in page gutters. Charming despite flaws.    [Book ID # 1158]
