Smith, F. Berkeley, How Paris Amuses Itself, New York & London, Funk & Wagnalls Company, 1903, third edition, 8vo (8" x 5.5"), HB in dj, decorated blue cloth boards w/ red, white & gilt titles in white dj w/ blue & red illus titles. Color frontispiece and title page, VG/ Good. Light rubbing to extremities, occasional light foxing. DJ darkened, edges chipped & worn, various stains & soiling, several small losses to top edge & at top corners, 3" tear to rear bottom edge.

335 pp, Profuse illustrations (135 b/w, 6 in color) include chapter head decorations, several full-page plates, and the numerous in-text photos and drawings, many by the author and others by artists of the day (Sancha, Michael, Lιandre, Cardona). A publisher's advertisement for the author's previous publication on Paris, "The Real Latin Quarter", is laid in.

From the author's introduction:

"It is the small boy who crawls under the circus tent who most keenly enjoys the show...Following the parade, a cavalcade of golden chariots, caparisoned horses and swaying elephants, the small boy has walked on air, buoyed by the thump and blare of the brass band...To this great pleasure-ground the whole world flocks for amusement...Paris! the polished magnet which attracts the spare change of countless thousands in payment of the wares of folly and fashion, of the dressmaker and the cook!"
