Henland, Cecil (arr.), The Ghosts of My Friends, New York, Frederick A. Stokes Company, n.d., first edition, HB, blue cloth bds w/ gilt titles & b&w illus pastedown, VG-/ none. Endpapers foxed, extremities bumped & worn, spine faded, ink stains to rear bd, prev owner's sig to ffep.
[1910]. Unpaginated. Approximately 1/4 of the pages have been used. First date is March 28, 1910; then jumps from September 5, 1910 to the last date, April 2, 1916.
"Directions. Sign your name along the fold of the paper with a full pen of ink, and then double the page over without using blotting paper."
The result is a somewhat symmetrical image from the bleeding of the ink onto the other half of the page, which does look rather like a ghost or skeleton of sorts. See also Your Hidden Skeleton on this site. As these books were not dated, we don't know which publisher originated the idea! [Book ID # 1958]
