The Beaux-Arts Society of Architects was formed in 1875 to "cultivate and perpetuate the associations and principles of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts of Paris and to found an Academy of Architecture for the purpose of architectural exhibitions and training, and to establish and maintain a library of architecture, also a club house for social usages, together with such appurtenances and belongings as may be necessary to carry out the business and objects above mentioned."
