Raymond, Antonin, Architectural Details, New York, The Architectural Forum (printed in Japan), 1938, first edition, 3rd printing, large 4to (12" x 9.5"), HB in slipcase, metal spiral bound boards covered in brown openweave cloth, large white title label with black titles, VG+ / G (slipcase). Light shelfwear. Slipcase ( spine titled) is darkened, spine rubbed, edges worn, chipping, creased, tape adhesive residue on front.

118 pp. Profuse b/w photographs and drawings. Architecture and designs realized by Raymond over a 17 year period - a clear demonstration of his design trademark - the synthesis of the East and the West, simultaneously incorporating new ideas and traditions from both. Beautiful production, printed on various papers, with gravure plates appearing on each left-hand page, and correspondent drawings and/or elevations on the opposite facing page. An essential -- scarcely found in such lovely condition or in the uncommon slipcase.

Antonin Raymond (1888-1976) was a Czech-educated architect, as well as a sculptor, painter, and musician. He and his wife, Swiss-French artist and graphic designer Noémi Pernissen Raymond, were located for the larger part of their careers in Tokyo. They collaborated on designs at their architectural firm there, from which they retired in 1973. Notably, Raymond also worked in conjunction with Frank Lloyd Wright on the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, a relationship which persevered both as a friendship and a competition.    [Book ID # 2023]
