Kidder Smith, G. E., Sweden Builds, New York & Stockholm, Albert Bonnier, 1950, first edition, 4to (11.25" x 8.75"), HB, blue cloth boards w/ gilt titles & design, VG / Poor. Foxing & blocks of yellowing to endpapers. Remnants of dj now in archival mylar.

280 pp. 683 b&w photographs & drawings,plans. 7 color plates. Text & photographs by architect/critic G. E. Kidder Smith. Introductory land usage chapter by Sven Markelius (City Planner of Stockholm). This copy includes remnants of dust jacket cover designed by Paul Rand (front cover + two inside flaps; we have added a scanned copy of the book's spine so the title can be read when shelved). Sections on residential buildings, educational, medical, & religious buildings, civil architecture, restaurants, theaters, hotels, parks, shops & offices, industrial architecture, bridges--altogether over 125 buildings executed by about 50 architects in mid-20th century Sweden.

From the Jacket: "Sweden Builds is an essential volume for all who would understand the full significance of modern architecture, for in Sweden this great movement has found its broadest base and many of its ablest practitioners. Visually and verbally the author evaluates and expounds this movement including 683 photographs and drawings and 7 color plates."
