"The designs fall into two basic categories--one based on organic, mainly floral, patterns; the other using more abstract and geometic shapes. Some of the floral designs are stylizations of tobacco flowers, roses, or tulips, perhaps intended as dress fabrics. Other designs combine stylized organic shapes with architectural motifs, reflecting elements of Mackintosh's contemproary architectural projects[.]...The abstract designs are totally different in mood, consisting mainly of simple stripes of bold color or lozenges and diamonds in geometric grids, with consistent use of black to produce dramatic contrast, characteristic of much design of the Jazz Age."
