Okamoto, Rai Y. and Williams, Frank E., Urban Design Manhattan: Regional Plan Association, A Studio Book, The Viking Press, 1969, first edition, square 4to, (11.25" x 11"), HB, original red cloth with gilt spine titles. Endpapers are an aerial photographic view of New York City with the old PanAm building right at the center, VG-/ VG- Lt. edgewear and bumping to extremities, front free endpaper removed, rear is fine; interior clean. DJ scratched, spine sunned, some loss at head, 1" triang chip at foot; edges worn and creased, upper right has scar from price tag removal.

Subtitled: A Report of the Second Regional Plan, April, 1969. 130 pp.; profusely illustrated, b&w photographs, drawings, maps and plans, many in color. The plan presented here is the result of a commissioned study by Rai Y. Okamato and Frank E. Williams to discover how the world's largest business district could be enlarged to accommodate a half-million for office workers by 2000 - using "Midtown - Manhattan to demonstrate the application of urban design principles. This study presents a powerful visual statement of what urban centers can be." Included is a case study of 42nd Street long before its Disney-fication.    [Book ID # 1983]
